JCPENNY has confirmed that even more of its stores are slated to close down – as the retail sector continues its bloodbath.
This announcement comes after it was already said that JCPenney would be forced to close down another location in Maryland.
This latest blow provides the names of eight more stores that will be erased from existence.
The new closures target JCPenney’s in Colorado, Idaho and New Hampshire, to name a few.
A spokesperson for JCPenney offered three reasons for the additional closures, saying: The decision to close a store is never an easy one, but isolated closures do happen from time to time due to expiring lease agreements, market changes or other factors.
“While we do not have plans to significantly reduce our store count, we expect a handful of JCPenney stores to close by mid-year.”
This list represents less than 2% of JCPenney’s 650-plus locations.
There is not yet an official closing date for these eight stores.
PREVIOUS JCPENNEY CLOSURE
The US Sun previously reported that JCPenney’s location at the Westfield Annapolis Mall in Annapolis will have until May 11, 2025, to shop.
It was anticipated that the Annapolis location would shutter sometime in 2025 after JCPenney announced in June that it was one of four stores to close for good.
JCPenney stores within The Shoppes at Bel Air in Mobile, Alabama; Elm Plaza in Waterville, Maine; and Sikes Senter in Wichita Falls, Texas; shuttered before the end of 2024.
The Westfield Annapolis Mall location was the only one of the four to hang on for a short while longer.
“Regretfully, we are unable to continue our current lease terms for these store locations and have been unable to find suitable locations in the market,” JCPenney noted of the closure announcement in June, per Retail Dive.
“We are grateful to our dedicated associates and the loyal customers who have shopped at these locations throughout the years.”
“We continue to make every dollar count for America’s diverse, working families and welcome them to shop at our other JCPenney stores in the area and at JCPenney.com,” the company continued.
WALGREENS WORRY
A raft of Walgreens pharmacies are to close in a US state as part of the chain’s sweeping closures, as reported by The US Sun.
Bosses are dramatically culling the company’s portfolio of outlets as they plan to shut 1,200 stores by 2027.
In October, it was reported that 500 Walgreens locations would go to the wall over the course of the year.
Five stores in California are to close within weeks, as reported by the Los Angeles Daily News.
The affected outlets include Whittier, Los Angeles, Orange, Placentia, and Stanton.
Around 93 workers are set to be impacted by the shutdowns.

Chiefs have told how the decision to close stores is difficult.
“It is never an easy decision to close a store,” Marty Maloney, a Walgreens official, told The Los Angeles Daily News.
“We know that our stores are important to the communities that we serve, and therefore do everything possible to improve the store performance.”
The Walgreens store in Whittier will slam shut on March 20, and its locations in Placentia, Orange, and Stanton will close in the following days.
The Los Angeles store set for closure will slam shut on March 27.
