Paris Saint-Germain have one foot in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League 2024-25 after a comfortable 3-0 win away at fellow Ligue 1 side Brest in the first leg of the knockout phase play-offs.
Goals from Vitinha and two from Ousmane Dembélé capped off a brilliant night for the Parisians, who were worthy winners on the night, registering 2.7 expected goals to Brest’s 0.9.
This win continues PSG’s excellent recent form. They are unbeaten in 17 games in all competitions and have now won 13 of their last 14, including their last four in the UCL. Their four-game winning streak is their joint longest winning run in the competition.
You’ve got to feel for Brest a little bit, though. After impressing in the league phase to finish 18th, they were ‘rewarded’ with a draw against a side who a) are far more familiar with their game given they’re in the same league and b) have a formidable record against them.
After this result, PSG have now extended their unbeaten run against Brest to 31 games in all competitions (W23 D8), having already comfortably beaten them twice in Ligue 1 this season.
Vitinha opened the scoring for the visitors with a penalty, his third successful spot kick from three attempts in all competitions this season. Dembélé then struck twice, continuing his remarkable run in front of goal. He has now scored 10 goals in his last four matches, and 15 in his last eight. The Frenchman has netted in each of his last 8 matches in all competitions, equalling the best run in history for a PSG player (tied with Neymar x2, Carlos Bianchi and Kylian Mbappé).
