Book Drop, Beanpot, Lardis, Rinzel, Finland’s Top Line, Trade Bait, and Other Blackhawks Bullets

The only hockey game on the calendar on Monday was the championship of the Beanpot. And ya know what? Boston University handled their business and won it! Blackhawks prospect and BU co-captain Ryan Greene was credited with two shots on net and won 11 of 20 faceoffs for the Terriers in the win.

    — BU Men's Hockey (@TerrierHockey) February 11, 2025 Teuvo Teräväinen is going to rep the Blackhawks for Finland in the 4 Nations Face-Off in the next week or so. The teams started practicing on Monday and it appears Turbo might ride shotgun on the top line for Finland with Sacha Barkov and Patrik Laine. Finland only had an optional skate yesterday (11 skaters and a couple goalies) so we’ll see if this changes but I absolutely love that line!

    — Daily Faceoff – Fantasy (@DFOFantasy) February 10, 2025 Steven Ellis looked at 15 NHL prospects who are having terrific seasons in the OHL on Monday. And guess who came up? Nick Lardis, who leads the entire CHL in scoring. Here’s what Ellis wrote about Lardis:

Injuries limited Lardis to just 37 OHL games last year, which meant missing out on him hitting 100 points like many expected. This year, he’s on pace for just under 70 goals, which would be absolutely wild. Over the weekend, Lardis became the all-time single-season scoring leader in Bulldogs history, passing Arthur Kaliyev with his 52nd goal. He’s almost always involved in Brantford’s scoring, highlighted by his four hat-tricks and 14 games with at least three points. In fact, he has registered at least 10 shots a whopping seven times this year, with his 15 against Kingston on Dec. 15 marking one of the best puck games I’ve ever seen in major junior (he only scored twice, somehow). Lardis isn’t a complete player by any means, but no OHLer has outscored Lardis over the past three seasons.

    — Steven Ellis (@SEllisHockey) February 10, 2025 I spoke with a couple Gophers and Blackhawks prospects about their season(s) and professional aspirations. If you didn’t catch this on Monday evening, I shared the conversation with Sam Rinzel about his development and growth over his two seasons at Minnesota and how he’s trying to remain present as the Gophers chase a Big Ten title and an NCAA championship while also knowing the phone will likely ring with an opportunity to go pro whenever this season comes to an end. Keep an eye out for some Oliver Moore later today!

    — Bleacher Nation Blackhawks (@BN_Blackhawks) February 10, 2025 Since there appears to be a total focus on Ryan Donato being the Blackhawks’ “only” trade chip at the moment (note: not true), this morning I looked at other players who will draw interest and start to pop up in the coming weeks before the March 7 NHL trade deadline.

    — Bleacher Nation Blackhawks (@bn-blackhawks.bsky.social) February 11, 2025 at 8:30 AM Just go ahead and cancel the 4 Nations Face-Off now. It’s already over. The US had a great shot of winning it anyway, but this is how they got the party started? A team meal with these legends? C’mon… that’s not fair to the other three countries!

    — USA Hockey (@usahockey) February 11, 2025 Today’s a pretty exciting day for me personally and, hopefully, for Blackhawks fans who like to read. My new book, “The Future: Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks’ New Era,” is officially available beginning today! You can buy it on Amazon here. If you’re around the area this evening and wanna stop by, say hi and pick up a signed copy, we’re having a launch event at The Book Cellar. If you’re in the western suburbs and like cigars, I’m also doing a book signing on Thursday night at Ultimate Cigar Lounge in Villa Park starting at 6 PM.

How about some good news on Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner? Sadly, the Bulls are also on draft lottery watch. Luis did a great job of putting together a comprehensive offseason outlook for the Bears.
