THE Kansas City Chiefs have a major decision to make over Travis Kelce.
The 35-year-old could even announce his NFL retirement off the back of it.
The superstar tight end had a poor season by his standards.
He had a dreadful Super Bowl 59, barely getting a touch of the ball.
That came as the Kansas City Chiefs were destroyed 40-22 by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Now, the AFC West have a decision to make over his future.
Kelce is the highest paid tight end in the NFL.
He has a $19.8 million salary-cap hit next season.
However, the Chiefs could save $17 million if they cut him.
That would be a huge amount of cap space freed up.
He has hinted at retirement from the NFL in the build-up to the Super Bowl.
If they do release him, that could force his hand at hanging up his cleats.
It is understood he has been considering the move for a while now.
It would have been more likely if the Chiefs had won on Sunday evening.
That would have sealed a three-peat of rings, and confirmed his legacy as the greatest in his position ever.
However, he does have a number of things going on outside of the game.
Travis Kelce The Actor
NFL star Travis Kelce recently landed his first major acting role and has a new cameo
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end plans to become a “heavyweight” figure in music and entertainment.
Kelce has seen his star power rise after going public with his girlfriend Taylor Swift last summer.
The 34-year-old has been cast in FX horror series Grotesquerie, directed by American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy.
Kelce will appear in the show alongside Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance, and Lesley Manville.
In August, Adam Sandler confirmed Travis will make a cameo in his upcoming Happy Gilmore sequel.
Last year, Kelce made his debut as a host of Saturday Night Live.
He discussed playing in the Super Bowl against his brother Jason, and his 2016 reality dating show ‘Catching Kelce’.
That includes the want to spend time with pop sensation girlfriend Taylor Swift.
The pair have been dating since 2023, with rumors of an engagement close.
During the Super Bowl, Kelce caught four passes for 39 yards, as the Patrick Mahomes-led offense struggled.
In the AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills, he had just two receptions for 19 yards.
During the 2024-25 NFL season, Kelce had 823 yards, the fifth highest among tight ends.
He only had three touchdowns, a lowly 18th in his position.
It would be hard to imagine the Chiefs releasing their 12 year veteran.
But he has made $94 million in career earnings, and could force the team into talks over a huge pay cut.
The Chiefs have just $16 million in salary-cap space for the 2025 season at present.
