Trader Joe’s copies Costco confirming it will also set purchase limits on $5 essential item

TRADER Joe’s has followed Costcos lead by placing a purchase limit on a hugely popular item.

Shoppers might be shocked to see the new policy apply to a $5 food essential.

The two huge chains will limit the number of eggs shoppers can buy.

Costco first introduced the measure to its over 600 locations.

The warehouse retailer had imposed a three-package limit on its eggs per customer.

These are usually sold in two-dozen or four-dozen counts.

Trader Joe’s announced its version of a very similar policy on social media.

The limit is currently in place at all of its over 600 locations across the US.

The shock purchase caps have come following a shortage caused by the avian flu.

“Due to ongoing issues with the supply of eggs, we are currently limiting egg purchases to one dozen per customer, per day, in all Trader Joe’s stores across the country,” Trader Joe’s said in a statement.

“We hope these limits will help to ensure that as many of our customers who need eggs are able to purchase them when they visit Trader Joe’s.”

    MAD SCRAMBLE

Shoppers have shared their shock at the empty shelves caused by this egg shortage.

Customers filmed shoppers emptying one Costco store’s egg inventory in just 10 minutes.

The comment section was flooded after the video showed members buying up all of the carts.

One person said: “Reminds me of the toilet paper craze during covid.”

Another user wrote: “That’s what’s wrong with the world people don’t know how to share and they are greedy and selfish.”

Reddittors also expressed their frustration with the chaos.

One person said: “The stores around me definitely ran out, due to the panic buying.”
