The Kansas City Chiefs fell short of making NFL history by failing to complete the league’s first championship three-peat in their 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
Whatever could go wrong for Kansas City did, and Philadelphia dominated every phase of the game throughout the lopsided contest.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was pressured and unable to consistently look down the field. The Eagles’ determined defense hit him multiple times, and Kansas City’s running game never materialized as the Chiefs’ offensive line struggled, especially on its left side.
Kansas City’s defense lived up to its promise to slow down superstar running back Saquon Barkley but couldn’t contain quarterback Jalen Hurts and Philadelphia’s impressive receiving corps.
