Super Bowl LIX is finally here and with it comes hours of entertainment, on the field and off—starting with a vivacious performance of the National Anthem.
This year's arrangement came from musician and composer Jon Batiste, who previously served as the bandleader and musical director for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert from 2015 to 2022.

The 38-year-old Louisiana-born singer was wearing an all-black ensemble as he sat behind a massive white piano on center field, where he belted out a jazzy rendition of The Star Spangled Banner—a performance which lasted for just over two minutes, with an unofficial run time of two minutes and two seconds.

Before Batiste serenaded audiences, R&B artist Ledisi performed "Lift Every Voice and Sing," a poem written in 1900 by NAACP leader James Weldon Johnson that is often referred to as the Black National Anthem, while Lady Gaga performed an emotional tribute of "Hold My Hand" in honor of the victims of the New Year's Day Bourbon St. terror attack.
And to think all of that's just to kick off the game! Still coming up is the highly-anticipated halftime show featuring Grammy winner Kendrick Lamar.
Lamar previously appeared on the Super Bowl halftime stage in 2022 as part of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's set. Whether or not the rappers plan to return the favor remains unclear, but fans are hopeful.
Many also wondered if any big names he's collaborated with—like Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Jay-Z—would step up for a surprise duet. Some fans are also curious how Timothée Chalamet fits into the story following his involvement in a recent promo for Lamar's performance.
