CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have arrested a man in connection to a deadly shooting in northwest Charlotte.
The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on Saturday in the 3400 block of Freedom Drive. Police responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call in the area.
Officials say before police arrived, a man suffering from a gunshot wound left the scene in a vehicle and drove to Atrium Health Mercy where he later died.
On Sunday, CMPD identified the victim as Des'mon Thompson, 34. His family has been notified of his death.
According to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, police arrested Gregory Dowana, 29, hours later regarding the case. Dowana has been charged with murder and is being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
