It was a busy weekend across the state, with every wrestling team — boys and girls — competing in regional tournaments.
In each weight class of each tournament, the top four placers qualify for the state tournament — which kicks off Thursday at Ball Arena in Denver. Every classification — i.e. 2A, 3A — will have it’s own tournament, and all will run concurrently.
120 wrestlers in The Tribune’s coverage area will be packing their bags to make the trip. Here’s a brief look at how their regionals played out.

Fort Lupton, Valley each send seven to state at Class 3A Region 2 Tournament, in Gilcrest
Fort Lupton finished third (208.5) and Valley finished fourth (185), each sending seven wrestlers to the state tournament. Isaiah Rodriguez (106) and Logan Sweetman (120) both took home gold for the Bluedevils. Josiah Gonzales (138) finished second, Christopher Galicia (165) and Harold McClain (285) finished third and Ezekiel Ortiz (113) and Donavon Buschman (190) finished fourth to round out Fort Lupton’s state qualifiers.
Garrett McGirl (150) and Nehemiah Whaley (157) were the two Valley wrestlers to win their regional bracket. Whaley moved his season record to 34-1 with his win. Xavier Garcia (106), Trenton Mestas (126), Diego Manriquez (132) and Rocky Hoffschneider (165) all brought home silver, and 138-pounder Carlos Corral finished third.
University finished fifth with 116.5 team points, sending six to state along the way. Connor Simonds (285) was the Bulldogs’ only winner, moving his record to 40-4 on the season. Ayden Arellano (120) took home bronze, and Tytan Bentley (157), Allen Mix (165), Kaleb Brawner (175), A.J. Schüler (215) all finished fourth to qualify.
Weld Central finished seventh as a team, scoring 102 points and sending two to state. Cristiano Ontiveros (150) finished second and William Ellerman (157) finished third to qualify.
Platte Valley finished eighth with 92.5 team points to round out the Weld County teams. Three Broncos wrestlers qualified for state — Logan Vannest (132) won his bracket, Jason Harrison (175) finished second and Trenton Kneeebone (215) finished third. Vannest moved his season record to 35-4 with the series of victories.
Windsor sends 12, Severance 10 to state from Class 4A Region 4 Tournament, in Windsor
Windsor and Severance dominated their region, each sending double-digit wrestlers to the state tournament. The Wizards are sending all but two varsity wrestlers, and Severance all but four.
Windsor won the tournament it hosted with 279 team points. Five Wizards wrestlers — Adrian Czyszczon (150), Robert Kendall (165), Santi Fernandez (175), Brayden Fernandez (190) and Evan Perez (215) — won their brackets. Perez kept his undefeated season alive, moving to 37-0 ahead of the state tournament. Robert Kendall also improved his season record to 34-1.

Severance was on Windsor’s heels for most of the tournament, finishing second with 233.5 team points. Drake Vombaur (113) and Dennis Campos (126) both won their brackets.

Reed Green (144) and Brody Vondy (215) both finished second, just ahead of Jaxon Felker (120), Brody Ridenour (150) and Jake Mitchell (165), who all finished third. Simon Carter (106), Joshua Abram (157) and George Griffenhagen (285) rounded out the Severance qualifiers with fourth-place finishes.
Leland Camacho was Northridge’s only state qualifier, finishing second in the 126-pound bracket. The Grizzlies finished sixth as a team with 89 points. Northridge had four fifth-place finishers who missed out on qualifying by just one spot.
Eaton sends seven to state, Resurrection Christian six from Class 3A Region 4 Tournament, in Pueblo
Eaton is sending seven wrestlers and Resurrection Christian six after both put up strong regional performances.
The Cougars finished second with 203 points, paced by two still-unbeaten wrestlers. Both 215-pounder Isaiah Johnson (24-0) and 285-pounder Samuel Stockton (25-0) remained undefeated heading into state, winning their brackets.
Joe Loecke (144) and Decker Nicholson (175) both brought home silver, and Caed Slinkard (138) took home bronze. Ethan Carter (190) rounded out Resurrection Christians qualifiers with a fourth-place finish.
The Reds finished fifth with 180 team points — on the backs of four individual winners — sending seven to state later this week.
Blake Hawkins (113), Dylan Paris (132), Paxton Pettinger (157) and Cal Sidwell (190) all won their brackets. Hawkins moved his record to 41-5, and Sidwell improved to 41-4 on the year. Ethan Deal (138) brought home silver, while 120-pounder Nate Fetzer and 150-pounder Brayden Betsworth both finished fourth to round out Eaton’s qualifiers.

The Huskies are sending all but two wrestlers to state, winning their regional with 209.5 team points. Tyler Varra (138), Wyatt Chase (175) and Ira Sittner (190) all won their brackets. Chase moved his record to 31-3 and Sittner to 35-5 ahead of the state tournament. Korbin Hoke (120) and Carter Jensen (126) both brought home silver and Braiden Sidwell (106) brought home bronze. Five Highland wrestlers — Gino Bautista (113), Wyatt Meyer (144), Collin Sanders (150), Clayton Nelson (165) and Kevin Perez (285) — finished fourth to round out the team’s qualifiers.
Roosevelt finishes second at Class 4A Region 1 Tournament in Colorado Springs, sending 10 to state
The Roughriders are sending 10 wrestlers to state after finishing second with 230 team points.
Malakii Martin (138), Chris LaLonde (144) and Michael Garcia (190) all won their brackets. Martin improved to 44-2 on the season, LaLonde to 39-3 and Garcia to 38-5. Kash Long (120), Travis Long (132) and Thomas Dunn (165) all brought home silver, and 126-pounder Ethan Mora took home bronze. Hudson Link (106), Kaleb Wells (113) and Noah Stratton (285) rounded out Roosevelt’s qualifiers, all finishing fourth.
Dayspring finishes fourth at Class 2A Region 1 Tournament in Akron, sending four to state
The Eagles are sending four wrestlers to state after finishing fourth with 129.5 team points. Liam Deboer (126) won his bracket, improving his season record to 32-3. Logan Clark (150) and Joseph Noce (165) brought home silver, and 144-pounder Elijah Martin rounded out Dayspring’s qualifiers with a third-place finish.
Greeley Central sends small, but stout, group to state from Class 4A Region 2 Tournament, in Mead
The Wildcats have just three wrestlers heading to state, but they have their sights set high after two won their regional bracket. As a team, the Wildcats finished eighth with 101 points.
Daniel Romero (106) and Noah Garcia-Salazar (150) both won stacked brackets to carry some momentum into state. Romero moved to 47-4 on the year with his four wins, and Garcia-Salazar’s four victories brought his record to 46-5. Gabe Galindo (157) rounded out the Wildcats qualifiers with a third-place finish.
Greeley West finishes seventh at Class 5A Region 2 Tournament in Parker, sending three to state
The Spartans picked up 117.5 team points on their way to a seventh-place regional finish, sending three to state.
Julian Chavez won the 126-pound bracket, bringing his season record to 47-5. Marcelo Marquez (150) finished second, improving his season mark to 29-7. Alfonso Aragon (120) finished fourth to round out the Spartans qualifiers.
GIRLS WRESTLING
Severance sends seven to state, winning Class 4A Region 4 tournament, in Yuma
Severance won its regional with 147.5 team points, sending seven wrestlers to state as a result. Eila Schultz (130) and Faith Vondy (135) were the Silver Knights’ only winners, but Kailey McGuire (120) and Alisa Gonzales (170) brought home second, Austyn Mitchell (140) finished third and Neveah Odegaard (125) and Alivia Gonzales (145) brought home fourth-place finishes. Schultz moved her record to 30-3 and Vondy improved to 20-2 on the season with their tournament wins.
Fort Lupton sent four to state, finishing sixth with 75 team points. Yaida Rodriguez (100) won her bracket, while Alyssa Solis-Ornelas (130) and Dahlila Tijerina (190) finished second. Adalyn Walker (145) rounded out the Bluedevils’ qualifiers with a third-place finish.
Weld Central finished 12th with 51 points, sending a pair to state in the process. Charlotte Ellerman (140) won her bracket, pinning each opponent along the way. Taylor Seeley (135) finished third to qualify as well.
Platte Valley rounded out the Weld teams, also sending a pair to state. The Broncos finished with 31.5 team points, led by a third-place finish by 120-pounder Kayton Kneebone and a fourth-place finish by 100-pounder Addelynne Sidwell.
Greeley West sends eight to state, finishing fourth at Class 5A Region 2 Tournament, in Fountain
Despite no wrestlers topping their individual bracket, the Spartans finished fourth with 127 team points and are sending eight to state.
Gianna Alirez and Abrianna Torrez both brought home silver for the Spartans, with Torrez improving her season record to 26-6. Alisson Lara Zaragoza (105) and Natalie Chairez Salazar (140) both took home bronze and four wrestlers — Angie Diosdado (100), Isabelle Bailey (115), Esperanza Rios (155) and Grace Cunningham (170) — finished fourth.
Roosevelt finishes eighth, sending four to state from Class 5A Region 1 Tournament, in Colorado Springs
The Roughriders are sending four to state after finishing tied for eighth, with 74 team points.
Ava Vigil was the Roughriders top placer, bringing home second in the 105-pound bracket. Precious Rivera (100), Kinsey Wells (120) and Lilli Herrera (130) all finished fourth to qualify.
