The Ukiah athletic community is celebrating the outstanding achievements of two talented young Track and Field athletes, Lucy Lunceford and Parker Mitchell, who have earned their spots at the prestigious California Winter Championships in Arcadia, California.
Lunceford, a sprint sensation, blazed to a remarkable 8.33 seconds in the 60-meter dash, securing her position among the region’s top athletes. Mitchell, a hurdling phenom, impressed with a personal best time of 9.4 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, demonstrating his exceptional speed and agility.
The achievements of Lunceford and Mitchell are all the more remarkable, considering that Track and Field is currently off-season for California High School. However, through Coach T’s winter club training program, they, along with several of their teammates, have maintained a high level of performance. Although some of their teammates narrowly missed the qualifying standards for this elite meet, the entire group has posted marks that position them as top contenders in the North Coast rankings.
Their hard work and perseverance have paid off, and they are thrilled to represent Ukiah at the Winter Championships. “Lucy and Parker, along with their teammates, have shown incredible dedication and commitment to their craft,” said Coach Teagardin, “Their self-motivation and discipline are an inspiration to us all.”
As the Winter Championships approach, Coach is also looking forward to the upcoming Ukiah High Track and Field season, which kicks off on February 10th. “We’re excited to build on the momentum from our winter athletes and see our team grow and develop,” he said.
In addition to his work with the high school teams, “Coach T” is spearheading the development of a youth track club through the Mendocino County Sports Academy. The program aims to provide young athletes opportunities to develop their skills and passion for Track and Field.
To ensure that the youth Track Club is accessible to every child in the community, Coach T has launched a crowdfunding campaign through GoFundMe. The “Empower Youth: Affordable Track & Field Programs” campaign aims to raise funds to cover program costs, equipment, and coaching expenses, allowing all young athletes to participate, regardless of their financial situation.
“We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to develop their passion for track and field, regardless of their financial background,” said Coach. “We’re grateful for any support the community can provide to help us make this program a success.”
