NBA Trade Deadline Recap: All the Deals From the Big Day

The NBA trade deadline has come and gone!

After a chaotic last couple of days, things quieted down a bit on the actual deadline day. However, while we didn’t get the most active last few hours, this ended up being one of the wildest trade deadline seasons in recent memory. It’s hard to recall as many in-season trades involving players of the magnitude that we saw shipped elsewhere this season.

Let’s recap a few of the biggest moves from the last few days and list all of the deals that went down on deadline day.

Lakers Acquire Luka Doncic From Mavericks – Saturday, February 1

Lakers receive: Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber, Markieff Morris Mavericks receive: Anthony Davis, Max Christie, 2029 first-round Jazz receive: Jalen Hood-Schifino, 2 2025 second-round

This trade is still a stunner, and it always will be. The Mavericks moving off a 25-year-old superstar for Anthony Davis and a future 1st Round Pick will never make sense to me. It happened, though. Doncic has yet to make his first appearance with Los Angeles, but that could be coming this weekend. Anthony Davis also has yet to play for Dallas since the trade, but that’s also expected shortly.

The deal could end up working out ok for the Mavericks in the short term, but essentially they’re betting on this group winning an NBA title in the next two or maybe three seasons. Then, that’s kind of it for this core. The Lakers, on the other hand, set themselves up great for the future.

Spurs Acquire De’Aaron Fox, Kings Add Zach LaVine – Sunday, February 2

Spurs receive: De’Aaron Fox, Jordan McLaughlin Kings receive: Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, 2025 first-round pick (via Hornets), 2027 first-round pick (via Spurs), 2031 first-round pick (via Timberwolves), 2025 second-round pick (via Bulls), 2028 second-round pick (via Nuggets), 2028 second-round pick (via Bulls) Bulls receive: Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, Their own 2025 1st-round pick (via Spurs)

It’s not a shocker that De’Aaron Fox ended up with the Spurs. It’s where he wanted to be, and it just felt like he would end up there. The surprising part was getting Zach LaVine involved and going to Sacramento. While LaVine had been mentioned in rumors over the past year or more, the Kings hadn’t been brought up much as of recently. But the deal got done. The Bulls moved off LaVine. The Spurs paired a star with Victor Wembanyama. The Kings got a heck of a return for Fox.

Lakers Acquire Mark Williams From Hornets – Wednesday, February 5

Lakers receive: Mark Williams Hornets receive: Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, 2030 pick swap, 2031 first-round pick (unprotected)

Talk about a perfect addition. After picking up Luka Doncic, the biggest hole the Lakers had was their interior defense and presence in the paint. Well, that changed with one more trade. Mark Williams is an outstanding defender down low and is solid offensively, and getting better as well. Not to mention, he’s on a rookie deal through next season. The only issue is he’s had injury issues in his young career, but when he’s on the floor he’s a perfect fit with Luka & LeBron.

Warriors Acquire Jimmy Butler From Heat – Wednesday, February 5

Warriors receive: Jimmy Butler Heat receive: Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, P.J. Tucker, 2025 first-round pick (protected, Warriors) Jazz receive: Dennis Schröder Pistons receive: Lindy Waters III, Josh Richardson

Jimmy Butler finally got out of Miami and his brand new contract while the Warriors were able to pick up the star running mate for Steph Curry they’ve been looking for. It took a while to get to this point, but Miami and Golden State are both in better positions now after the deal. Butler can help the Warriors chase one more title, and the Heat can finally move on from Butler and receive some more assets in the process.

TRADE: Warriors Acquire Jimmy Butler from Heat, Sign Him to an Extension (Bulls Impact)

Raptors Acquire Brandon Ingram From Pelicans – Wednesday, February 5

Raptors receive: Brandon Ingram Pelicans receive: Bruce Brown, Kelly Olynyk, 2026 first-round pick (IND), 2025 second-round pick

The Pelicans finally were able to find a taker for Brandon Ingram and at least got some draft capital back for his expiring contract, and the Raptors took a flier on a high-ceiling player who could fit in well with a young, talented core. If they can re-sign him, great. If not, they likely only parted ways with a back-end first-round pick next year.

Bucks Acquire Kyle Kuzma From Wizards – Wednesday, February 5

Bucks receive: Kyle Kuzma, Patrick Baldwin Jr., Jericho Sims, 2025 second-round pick Wizards receive: Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, 2028 first-round pick swap Knicks receive: Delon Wright, Cash considerations

This move was the Bucks wanting to shed salary, and also making a bet that Kyle Kuzma shakes off what’s been a not-so-great season in Washington. At his best, Kuzma can help the Bucks make a run in the postseason, and Milwaukee is banking on him benefitting from entering a situation where he’s a role player and not getting as much attention. Washington on the other hand gets future draft compensation, a flier in AJ Johnson, and takes on the rest of Khris Middleton’s deal.

The Rest From the Final Hours …

Note: There are A LOT of little deals, so don’t hate me if we’ve missed a few. We’ll update with those that we find.

The Milwaukee Bucks also acquired Jericho Sims from the New York Knicks in exchange for Delon Wright and cash. He’ll provide some more big-man depth behind Brook Lopez. The Bucks also moved Patrick Baldwin Jr., who was acquired in the deal with the Wizards, to the Spurs and added Kevin Porter Jr. from the Clippers for MarJon Beauchamp. Philly sent Reggie Jackson and a future first-round pick to the Wizards in exchange for Jared Butler and four second-round picks, per Marc Stein. Some smart consolidation for Washington. The Houston Rockets acquired Jaden Springer and two-second round picks from the Boston Celtics for a future second-rounder. A small cost-cutting more for the Celtics. The Cleveland Cavaliers made a relatively big splash, improving their wing depth by adding De’Andre Hunter in a deal with the Atlanta Hawks. More on that here. TRADE: Cavaliers Add De’Andre Hunter in Deal with Hawks The Hawks stayed busy by sending Bojan Bogdanovic and three second-round picks to the Clippers for Terance Mann and Bones Hyland. They also moved Cody Zeller to the Rockets to dip below the luxury tax. The Phoenix Suns traded Jusuf Nurkic and one of their recently acquired first-rounders from the Jazz to the Charlotte Hornets in their own cost-cutting effort. They will welcome back Cody Martin and Vasilije Micic in the deal. Davion Mitchell of the Toronto Raptors is headed to the Miami Heat for PJ Tucker and a second-rounder. Detroit adds another ball-handler by taking Dennis Schroder from the Jazz, who added the veteran in the big Jimmy Butler deal. Kings acquire Jake LaRavia from the Grizzlies, per Chris Haynes. Raptors take James Wiseman off the Pacers’ hands. Marcus Smart leaves the Grizzlies for Washington in a multi-team deal that includes Memphis attaching a first-round pick.
