Joe Lunardi says Tennessee solidified itself as the fourth No. 1 seed — and third from the SEC — while Arkansas moved from the “Next Four Out” category to the first team out of the field in his latest bracketology.
The ESPN bracket expert updated his NCAA Tournament projections on Thursday morning. It features Arkansas as the final team on the outside looking in on the tourney field. Lunardi has Vanderbilt (trending down), San Diego State, BYU, and Wake Forest (trending up) as his last 4 teams into the field. Arkansas joining the field of 68 would give the SEC 14 bids.
(The record-high for bids by a single conference was set by the Big East in 2011, when it had 11 teams in the field.)

— Joe Lunardi (@ESPNLunardi) February 6, 2025Georgia also finds itself on the bubble as 1 of the last 4 byes into the field.
Auburn, Alabama, and Tennessee all grab No. 1 seeds in Lunardi’s projections — just as they did in his Wednesday update. Florida and Texas A&M are on the 2-seed line while Kentucky is slated as a 4-seed. Ole Miss is next in line for a top-4 seed in Lunardi’s projections.
Curiously, Mizzou was No. 18 overall in Lunardi’s update on Wednesday but was dropped after losing by 4 on the road to Tennessee. Mizzou was good enough to solidify Tennessee as a 1-seed, but Tennessee evidently was not a good enough loss to keep Mizzou from falling out of the 5-seed line.
The Tigers will have another chance on Saturday when they host the 10th-ranked Aggies. The weekend slate across the SEC features 4 games with a ranked team going on the road to face an unranked team.
It also has 2 games between top-15 opponents. Mizzou and A&M tip off at 3:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network. Florida and Auburn battle 30 minutes later on ESPN2 inside Neville Arena.
Arkansas, with wins in 3 of its last 4 games, will look to keep the momentum going against No. 3 Alabama. A win over the Crimson Tide could very well move the Razorbacks into Lunardi’s projected field. At BetMGM, the Razorbacks are currently +190 to make the NCAA Tournament.
