Speaking to the media in Dubai, Akhtar said, _“If Afghanistan’s team shows maturity during the event, they could make it to the semi-finals.” He expressed confidence in the potential of the Afghan team, believing that with maturity and patience, especially from their batsmen, they could achieve surprising results. The same Afghan Team defeated Pakustan in the ODI World Cup 2023 and also defeated Australia in the T20 World Cup to seal their place in the semifinals.

Akhtar went on to predict the teams he feels will reach the semi-finals. He said, “I believe Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan will reach the semi-finals of the 2025 Champions Trophy.” His statement reflects a strong belief in the Asian teams’ capabilities, expecting them to perform well in the tournament. Akhtar is particularly hopeful about Pakistan’s match against India, expressing optimism: “I’m hopeful that Pakistan will defeat India on February 23. In fact, I believe that both Pakistan and India should also meet in the final of the tournament.”

Beyond predictions, Akhtar also discussed the importance of Pakistan’s matches against India and New Zealand. He remarked, “If Pakistan defeats India and New Zealand in the Champions Trophy, the Green Shirts will have already won half the tournament.” This shows his confidence in Pakistan’s ability to perform on big occasions. Additionally, Akhtar praised the PCB for upgrading the Gaddafi Stadium and encouraged fans to support the national team. He concluded by advising, “Now, let’s not question the team’s selection anymore.”
