THE Los Angeles Rams star wide receiver Cooper Kupp stunningly announced that the team told him he would be traded this upcoming offseason.
So there will likely be numerous NFL teams that will inquire about the 31-year-old Super Bowl 56 MVP Kupp, and three have a major shot at acquiring the veteran.
Kupp informed the NFL world on social media that the Rams intend to trade him.
The eight-year NFL veteran revealed that he doesn’t agree with the Rams’ decision but he looks back on his tenure with the franchise with “so much pride.”
Kupp’s 2021-22 campaign saw him record the NFL’s “triple crown” after catching 145 passes for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns in the regular season and winning Super Bowl MVP.
Unfortunately, injuries have plagued Kupp in recent years, as he’s missed a combined 18 games in the last three seasons.
Kupp has a $29.8 million cap hit for 2025, so it’s likely he will increase his trade destinations if he’s willing to renegotiate his contract.
Here are the three teams who could be interested in Kupp, who recorded 67 receptions for 710 yards and six touchdowns this season.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers were eyeing to trade for a star wideout last year but struck out to support rising star, George Pickens.
Pittsburgh, who won 10 games and made the playoffs this campaign, didn’t have one wide receiver, other than Pickens, who exceeded 550 receiving yards.
The Steelers have an established wideout on the outside but not one at the slot receiver position, where Kupp would fit seamlessly.
Mike Tomlin‘s squad has $40.7 million in cap space and will look to support whoever their next quarterback is, whether it’s soon-o-be free agents Russell Wilson or Justin Fields.
Pittsburgh was reportedly interested in Kupp at the trade deadline last year, so it would make sense if the iconic franchise gets on the phone with Rams general manager Les Snead to inquire about Kupp’s services.
Washington Commanders
Coming off an NFC Championship appearance, the Washington Commanders will be sitting pretty in the cap space department entering the offseason, making Kupp’s contract a non-issue.
Rookie star Jayden Daniels put together a stellar campaign, and he did so with Dyami Brown as his No. 2 wide receiver and 34-year-old Zach Ertz as his starting tight end.
Kupp would serve as a helpful role for Kliff Kingsbury’s offense which loves to throw to players underneath.
The Commanders are ready to win now and Kupp, if healthy, could return to his 1,000-yard-a-season self thanks to the environment.
Los Angeles Chargers
The first two destinations in this piece are in win-now situations, but this landing spot meets that requirement and more.
Kupp wouldn’t have to move if the Chargers traded for him, and he would play in familiar quarters at SoFi Stadium, the same home as the Rams.
Jim Harbaugh‘s team desperately needed talent at the wide receiver position other than rookie Ladd McConkey throughout this campaign.
Justin Herbert would not be opposed to a reliable second wideout and with $63.4 million cap space, the Bolts have what it takes to pay Kupp’s contract.
