DENVER (KDVR) — An abandoned building that was once a gas station caught fire late Monday night. Crews said possibly two dozen people were sheltering inside.
At 11:15 p.m., West Metro Fire Rescue posted on X that crews were responding to a vacant gas station on West Alameda Avenue near South Harlan Street in Lakewood's Martindale neighborhood.
According to the fire rescue, several people called 911 to report flames and smoke.

At around 12:50 a.m. on Tuesday, West Metro Fire Rescue said the fire was out and crews completed their overhaul.
West Metro said the damage was extensive and the cause is still under investigation.
