Darrell Taylor’s 2024 Snapshot
In August 2024, the Chicago Bears acquired edge rusher Darrell Taylor from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round draft pick. This move aimed to bolster the Bears’ pass rush, especially after an unsuccessful attempt to acquire edge defender Matthew Judon.
Taylor, a 2020 second-round pick from the University of Tennessee, had been productive over three seasons with the Seahawks, accumulating 21.5 sacks, 91 tackles, and five forced fumbles. His most notable season was in 2022, where he achieved a career-high 9.5 sacks.
Upon joining the Bears, Taylor expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, recognizing the potential for significant playing time opposite Montez Sweat. He appreciated the transition to a 4-3 defensive scheme, which allowed him to focus more on pass rushing without the responsibilities of dropping into coverage, as he had in Seattle’s 3-4 system.
Throughout the 2024 season, Taylor appeared in 16 games, contributing 20 solo tackles, three sacks, and two forced fumbles. His presence added depth to the Bears’ defensive line, and he played a role in key games, including the season opener against the Tennessee Titans, where the Bears secured a 24-17 victory.

I don’t know whether or not Darrell Taylor will be back in Chicago. However, I believe he was a good acquisition for GM Ryan Poles last August and played well in his limited pass-rushing role. My hope is that Poles can land a full-time option for the edge position opposite Montez Sweat, meaning the situational pass rusher role that Taylor occupied this season wouldn’t be a necessity. Although depth is good, and if Taylor wants to return to Chicago at the right price, he would be a nice swing pass rusher behind Sweat and whomever Chicago acquires to man the spot opposite Sweat.
