Denver weather: Snow totals, temperatures and what to expect in February

DENVER (KDVR) -- After subzero and freezing temperatures for most of January, Denver weather is starting February on the mild side with temperatures in the 60s in the forecast.

It may feel like spring has sprung but according to historical records, there will most likely be more cold temperatures and snow before the Mile High City warms up for the season.

    In fact, the snowiest month of the year is still ahead for Denver. But before then, here's what you can expect to see in February.

    Typical February temperatures

    Throughout February, according NWS records, temperatures typically warm up by five or six degrees.

    The typical high for the first few days of the month is 44 degrees and by the end of the month highs typically break into the 50s. The record high temperature of 80 degrees was recorded on February 10, 2017.

    What is the coldest temperature Colorado has ever reached?

    Overnight is a different story, with a record low of negative 25 degrees on multiple occurances in February's history. Typically though, low temperatures overnight hover around 17 to 22 degrees. The lowest high temperature ever seen in Denver in Febraury was 37 degrees recorded in 1986.

    Last February, the average high was 50 degrees and the average low was 24 degrees.

    How much snow does Denver get in February?

    February is the fourth snowiest month of the year for Denver. On average, 5.7 inches of snow falls thorughout the 28-day month. Notably, the Mile High City has seen more snow than average in many recent Februarys.

    Last February, Denver received a total of 13.7 inches of snow. The heaviest day of snowfall was on Feb. 3 with 5.5 inches.

    Don't be fooled — while temperatures are mild and will remain in the upper 50s and lower 60s for the first few days of the month, spring is still a ways away.
