Colorado Parks & Wildlife and Hotchkiss police teamed up to free a doe from a tomato cage.
District Wildlife Manager Adam Wallerstein had been tracking the deer for weeks. On Thursday, Wallerstein was able to find and tranquilize the deer to free her from the cage, according to a post on X by CPW.
Once tranquilized, Wallerstein and the police used bolt cutters to remove the tomato cage from around the doe’s body.
Wallerstein tagged the doe to indicate she had been tranquilized and administered a reversal drug before setting her free.
At the end of the thread, CPW reminded individuals to keep properties free of potential wildlife hazards including hammocks and garden equipment. CPW also recommends investing in wildlife-safe fencing.
