DENVER (KDVR) -- Several Venezuelan citizens who were "unlawfully present in the United States" were taken into custody by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Denver Field Division. The ATF had been conducting a months-long investigation involving firearms, drugs and human trafficking in the Denver area.
According to an arrest affidavit against defendant Jose Manuel Guerra-Caballero, a suspected member of the Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, the ATF was involved in several undercover purchases of firearms throughout the Denver area from October 2024 through January 2025.
Throughout the investigation, Guerra-Caballero allegedly spoke with an undercover ATF agent about potentially purchasing drugs, including a variety of controlled substances like methamphetamine, cocaine, MDMA and ketamine, as well as selling sex workers that were allegedly in every state in the United States -- none of whom were older than 24 years old.
After purchasing drugs and 8 firearms, the ATF staged a drug deal where several armed suspects were taken into custody, along with an additional five firearms.
The operation was led by ATF's Denver Field Division.
The affidavit said the Department of Homeland Security/Immigration Customs and Enforcement, Deportation Officer confirmed that six suspects were "unlawfully present in the United States" and are Venezuelan citizens.
