DENVER (KDVR) — A woman accused of a range of crimes, including strangulation, child abuse, assault and kidnapping, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Montrose on Wednesday.
Luz Maria Ramirez-Monreal, 24, a Mexican national according to ICE, lawfully entered the U.S. on March 3, 2022. The federal agency said she later violated the terms of her lawful admission.
On Nov. 17, 2024, the Montrose Police Department arrested Ramirez-Monreal for five charges: second-degree burglary of a dwelling, second-degree assault - strangulation, possession of under four grams of a controlled substance, criminal mischief between $300-$1,000 and knowing/reckless child abuse resulting in no injury.
She did not enter a plea in the case and was released on Nov. 18, 2024, on a personal recognizance bond, according to court records.
“Ms. Ramirez entered our country legally but overstayed her welcome and decided to run amok in our community,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Denver Field Office Director Robert Guadian in a release. “Her decisions show a clear and present threat to our communities, and I think we’ve made it clear that it won’t be tolerated.”
She was arrested again in Montrose on Saturday, Jan. 25, and charged with harassment, kidnapping, resisting arrest and violation of a protection order. After her arrest, ICE officers issued a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge. She is currently in ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations custody, according to ICE.
ICE said that members of the public can report child sex offenders to the ICE Tip Line at 866-347-2423, or online here.
