LOS Angeles Rams star Matthew Stafford has reportedly shared his plans for the 2025 season.
The 36-year-old’s campaign came to an end after the Rams‘ NFC Divisional Round elimination to the Philadelphia Eagles.
On Wednesday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Stafford is said to “feel good” and will suit up next season.
“My understand is that Matthew Stafford does in fact plan to play next season,” Rapoport said on The Insiders program on NFL Network.
“This is essentially what he communicated to the Rams. He wanted to take some time off and basically told them ‘I feel good, I don’t see why I wouldn’t play.'”
Rapoport did reveal that Stafford will likely remain with the Rams if the team reworks his current deal.
The insider noted that the Rams had also reworked his contract before last season which helped him stay with the organization.
Stafford will earn $27 million, all non-guaranteed, in 2025.
There had been some uncertainty about Stafford’s future when the Rams’ playoff run ended.
Last campaign, Stafford took longer than expected to report to training camp due to the reworking of his deal.
Rams head coach Sean McVay is optimistic that Stafford’s deal can get worked out quicker this time around.
“We don’t want to have that go on again,” McVay said last week, per ESPN.
“I don’t think that’s good for anybody. I think sooner than later, being able to get that clarity. Understanding clear, open and honest communication.
“I think there’s a lot of love coming from our part. I think there’s a lot of appreciation coming from his part as well.
“And I think a lot sooner than later is an ideal scenario.”
Stafford recorded 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 16 starts.
He helped guide the Rams to an NFC West title and a win over the favored-Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card round.
Stafford posted 209 yards and two touchdowns in the playoff win.
During the Rams’ loss to the eventual NFC Champion Eagles, he passed for 324 yards and two touchdowns.
Stafford has previously won a Super Bowl with the franchise.
The soon-to-be 37-year-old has led the Rams to three playoff appearances in four campaigns since being traded by the Detroit Lions.
