BILL BELICHICK gave Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid some important advice on how to make NFL history and break his records.
The Chiefs punched their ticket to the Super Bowl by beating the Buffalo Bills 32-29 on Sunday and are now set to face Reid’s former team the Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch from 2023.
The game takes place on February 10 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana and the Chiefs boss will get the chance to do something even New England Patriots legend Belichick couldn’t.
The Patriots great won two consecutive Super Bowls in 2003 and 2004, but was denied a historic three-peat as he suffered a divisional round exit in 2005.
Reid is also close to beating another record, which currently belongs to the North Carolina coach.
The 66-year-old notched his 28th playoff win with Kansas City against the Bills and he is now only three wins away from Belichick’s record 31 post-season triumphs.
However, the Chiefs coach insists he doesn’t think of any of that and instead focuses on the moment.
Reid told the Let’s Go podcast, where he joined Belichick and Jim Gray: “You don’t really think about all of that until the media asks you.
“You’re just in the grind, you’re trying to find the next first down, stopping the next team.
“You’re so busy doing that that maybe you look back on it when you’re retired or so and you go, ‘Wow, that was something really special’.
“But right now, you’re into the guys, you’re into the team, trying to make the right calls, and so on.”
Belichick agreed with Reid and told him that is the secret to success in the NFL.
The 72-year-old is adamant there is no point in thinking about all the buzz that surrounds a big game.
Instead, the Patriots great insists a coach needs to just concentrate on what’s actually in front of him.
Belichick responded: “That’s why you’re winning, Andy. Don’t look back. Don’t look ahead.
“Just stay in the moment and keep winning. You’re doing a great job, just stay in the moment.”
