With less than 20 days to go for ICC Champions Trophy, the renovation works at the stadiums in Pakistan are yet to be complete. Now, a report has claimed that it is “absolutely impossible” for the task to be finished in time for the marquee event. CT 2025 will mark the first ICC event that Pakistan will be hosting in decades.

As per Pakistan publication The Dawn, the renovation works at the stadium is impossible to be completed before the deadline. However, the report states that the authorities are confident of finishing the task entrusted upon them. It is pertinent to note that the deadline for the works to be completed is currently set for January 31. There have already been three delays in the completion of renovation works at the stadiums in Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi.

    “It seems absolutely impossible to contemplate the renovation work being completed within the deadline, but the personnel handed the responsibility are beaming with confidence,” the newspaper reported.

    While the renovation works at the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore is in its final phase, work is still pending at the National Bank stadium in Karachi. As per The Dawn, a source has doubted the PCB’s ability to deliver

    “Look, the stadiums will be in a shape to host matches but the question is the PCB has promised everyone a world-class experience at these renovated venues for the Tri-series and Champions Trophy and whether they can deliver on that promise remains to be seen,” a source, who is following the construction work, said.

    PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi inspected the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on January 28 and was adamant that all three stadiums will be ready for competition by January 31. For the unaware, the PCB had chosen to spend Rs 586 crore on the renovations of the three stadiums. The work has been going on for the last five months, but yet it isn’t complete.
