The nightmare that was the 2024 Chicago Bears season is over. Before the transactional period starts and the roster changes begin, we will recap the seasons of most of the 53-man roster. Next up: We’re looking at the 2024 season of offensive lineman Doug Kramer Jr.
Doug Kramer Jr.’s 2024 Snapshot
With injuries galore on Chicago’s offensive line in 2024, Doug Kramer Jr. was called into action more times than we would have hoped for going into the year. Kramer played a season-high 41 snaps for Chicago in their embarrassing loss to the New England Patriots in Week 10 and recorded a putrid 11.3 PFF pass-blocking grade and a 49.2 run-blocking grade.
While Week 10’s loss to New England served as the straw that broke the camel’s back for Shane Waldron in Chicago, it was Waldron’s buffoonery in Week 8 that began the calls for his firing. It involved Kramer in an unfortunate goal-line fumble that will define the former Fighting Illini product’s season.
In Week 8, Waldron decided, with the game on the line, to hand the ball off to Kramer, who promptly fumbled the football into the hands of the Washington defense. We know how the game played out from there, so we don’t need to re-live that nightmare any further today, but that type of galaxy-brained play-calling cost Waldron his job in Chicago.
Kramer was on the field for 85 snaps this season and finished with an 18.0 PFF pass-blocking grade and a 50.1 run-blocking grade. Kramer allowed a sack and a pair of hurries, three pressures, and was penalized twice for 19 yards.

Kramer will become a restricted free agent in March when the new league year begins. As a restricted free agent, Kramer is permitted to negotiate with other teams during free agency. However, the Bears can match any offer.

Frustration from the goal-line fumble aside — especially since Waldon’s silliness put Kramer in that position — Kramer is a below-replacement-level depth player. I have no idea whether he’ll be back or not. But if he is, it should be in a deep-depth role. And hopefully, Chicago does enough work on the offensive line this offseason that Kramer won’t be thrust into extended looks next season.
