NFL referee conspiracy theory unearthed claiming to favor Chiefs in Bills game after ‘rigged’ claims

NFL fans believed they uncovered a conspiracy to favor the Kansas City Chiefs, but a rules analyst debunked the claim.

Decisions made on first down attempts have prompted fans to allege bias towards the Chiefs in the AFC Championship.

During the AFC Championship, the Buffalo Bills attempted to go for a first down with a QB sneak.

However, they were stopped by the Chiefs just short of the line to gain.

While referees on the field spotted Josh Allen short of the first down line, replayed seemed to show that he was a half-yard past the line.

NFL fans believed that the referees in the game must be biased towards the Chiefs, and did some digging to find out.

One Bills fan posted pictures to X showing a line judge supporting the Baltimore Ravens over a decade ago.

The fan also posted pictures allegedly indicating that the referee has family ties to Kansas City.

Fans are finding any way to blame the refs for the Chiefs’ success, especially because of how many calls have gone in the team’s favor.

That specific call caused the Chiefs to get the ball back early in the fourth quarter of the AFC Championship game.

Tony Romo and rules analyst Gene Steratore both believed that it should have been ruled a first down.

The Chiefs would later score a go ahead touchdown and then win the game on a field goal.

While fans think the NFL is rigged for the Chiefs, rules analyst Dean Blandino has pushed back against that notion.

“The Chiefs have gotten the benefit of calls, but good teams make their own breaks. You think about the Patriots,” Blandino said.

“My brother, who is convinced that the league is rigged, that is convinced that I signed a (non-disclosure agreement) when I left the league office that I cannot tell anybody that it’s rigged because I was head of officiating.

“We grew up in the same household, by the way. I said, ‘Listen, there’s no conspiracy. The officials, there’s too many variables, there’s too much going on.

“To me, it’s the hardest sport — when you think about football with seven different officials, to say, ‘OK, I’m gonna rig this game,’ or the game is rigged from the league office down.

“The officials are just trying to get it right.”

The NFL could save a lot of trouble by implementing more replay technology or tracking technology to make spotting the ball easier.

The league is set to discuss some of these ideas in the offseason.

Replay assist could be expanded to include penalty calls like facemasks.

It is unclear if any tracking technology will be implemented for the 2025 season.
