BRONNY James isn’t quite ready to be a full-time NBA player.
Bronny was given one of his biggest opportunities of the season and couldn’t make much out of it.
Bronny spent a good amount of time on the court in the first quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers eventual 118-104 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.
However, he put on quite a poor showing during those minutes.
Bronny ended his night 0-for-5 from the floor with three turnovers in just 15 minutes of play.
He had a -9 plus/minus, one of the worst in the league on Tuesday.
“Maybe put him in a tough spot,” Lakers head coach JJ Redick said.
“Flying up yesterday, nationally televised game in Philly and all that stuff.
“He didn’t play well, but he’s been playing great in the stay-ready games, and he’s been playing great in the G [League].
“I have confidence in him.”
Bronny had yet to play more than five minutes in an NBA game this season before Tuesday’s loss.
Most of the time he was being put into games that were already decided.
Bronny allowed three baskets on four of the shots he defended on Tuesday, being exploited by Tyrese Maxey.
Maxey scored 43 points in the win.
“He’s a fast guard,” Bronny said.
“Amazing touch. Can shoot it. I was trying to stand my ground.
“Just trying to play as hard as I can and bring as much energy as I can. That’s all.”
New rights deal
The NBA signed an 11-year deal with three networks for the league's rights from the 2025-26 season.
And there will be no games on TNT for the first time since the network launched in 1988.
The Walt Disney Company will continue to show the league with 80 regular-season games across ESPN and ABC.
They will also show around 18 playoff games from the first and second round, a Conference Finals series for 10 of the 11 years, and remain the home of the NBA Finals.
NBC will return as an NBA broadcaster for the first time since 2002.
The network will show up to 100 games per season across it’s channels and Peacock streaming service.
It will also be the home of NBA All-Star and show approximately 28 playoff games from the first and second round.
NBC will show one Conference Finals Series for six of the 11 years, rotating with new broadcaster Amazon Prime.
Amazon will show 66 NBA regular-season games including one on Black Friday.
The streaming service is also the home of the latter stages of the NBA Cup and the entire Play-In Tournament.
Prime will also broadcast around one third of the playoff games in the first and second round.
Bronny’s father, LeBron James, recognized the poor performance but also acknowledged he will get better over time.
“Obviously, it’s his first extensive minutes with us,” LeBron said.
“We had that first game where it was just a moment — and that was a great moment.
“But tonight was his first opportunity to be with the big guys, be with the big club, and he’s going to continue to use that and get better and better.”
The Lakers are 26-19 and looking to find a player to get them over the hump.
Bronny likely won’t find himself as the player to give them extensive minutes down the stretch.
