Chicago Bears 2024 Exit Interviews: Elijah Hicks

The nightmare that was the 2024 Chicago Bears season is over. Before the transactional period starts and the roster changes begin, we will recap the seasons of most of the 53-man roster. Next up: We’re looking at the 2024 season of safety Elijah Hicks.

Elijah Hicks’ 2024 Snapshot

Despite playing in a career-low 12 games due to injuries, Elijah Hicks posted career-highs in tackles (40), fumble recoveries (2), and passes defended (2) for the Chicago Bears in 2024.

Hicks’ season was filled with ups and downs, with his best performances coming in Week 10 against New England, Week 16 against Detroit, and Week 6 against Jacksonville. As for his worst performances, they came in Week 8 against Washington and Week 11 against Green Bay.

Hicks entered the Bears starting lineup and played most of the remaining schedule in place of injured safety Jaquan Brisker, who missed most of the season with a concussion suffered in Chicago’s blowout win against the Carolina Panthers. A seventh-round selection in 2022, Hicks was serviceable in an expanded role this season.

    By the Numbers

Tackles: 40 Interceptions: 0 Pass Breakups: 2 Fumble recoveries: 2

    Contract Status

Hicks will play the final season of his rookie contract in 2025. He is scheduled to make $1.1 million in base salary and $19,253 in signing bonus money, with a total cap number of $1.11 million. If the Bears chose to move on from Hicks this offseason—which I don’t see happening—they would incur a dead cap hit of $19,253 and $1.1 million in cap savings.

    Turning the Page

With Hicks making a minimal amount of money in 2025, there’s no reason to believe he won’t be back next season in a depth role. While Hicks was serviceable in an expanded role due to the Jaquan Brisker injury this season, hopefully, he’ll be back in his depth role next season at a very reasonable price point.
