DUKE men’s basketball player Khaman Maluach fell to the floor in pain during a Monday night game against N.C. State.
The troubling sequence involving the college basketball star took place during the Blue Devils’ home game at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
With just about four and a half minutes left in the game, Duke was trying to increase its 63-62 lead.
As play was going on, the ESPN cameras showed Maluach in the low post and suddenly vomited right underneath the basket.
Officials paused the game and the 7-foot-1 center released the liquids from his stomach and looked down as Duke workers put down towels to help clean up the mess.
Then, Maluach dropped to the floors, and trainers attended to the 18-year-old.
Players on both sides walked to their respective benches as Maluach finally left the court.
And after the long delay, the contest was stopped again as a Duke student was helped out of the stands after falling unconscious.
The Blue Devils went on to claim the victory over the Wolfpack by a score of 74-64.
After the game, Duke head coach Jon Scheyer revealed that Maluach wasn’t ill but experienced cramping.
Then, the South Sudan native drank Gatorade which proved to be too much for his stomach.
“He felt better after the game,” Scheyer told reporters.
“I’m worried about him.
“We have to get him rested.”
After Malucach’s departure, Duke star Cooper Flagg helped the squad finish on an 11-2 run.
“That was just a little bit of a breather to set up and get stops and go on a run,” said Flagg.
“It was a break to collect myself.”
Fortunately, a Blue Devils spokesman said the student who left the game after falling unconscious was fine and ultimately left the venue under her own power.
Duke has yet to lose this season as they have a 10-0 record.
The No. 2 ranked Blue Devils will take on the rival North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday night at 6:30 pm Eastern.
