The NBA never fails to disappoint.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the trade deadline just became a whole lot more interesting. The Sacramento Kings are expected to shop star guard De’Aaron Fox ahead of Feb. 6. The news comes with the Kings sitting at 24-22 and barely hanging on to the final Play-In Tournament spot in the Western Conference.
Charania notes that Fox is expected to have plenty of suitors, but the guard does reportedly have a preferred destination in mind. Fox is averaging 25.2 points, 6.2 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game over his 43 games played this season.

The Kings’ decision to take offers on De’Aaron Fox seemingly stems from his looming 2026 free agency. Many have wondered whether or not the 27-year-old would look to remain with the small market organization or test his luck in the open market. With Sacramento suddenly willing to move him, I think we have our answer.
Fox automatically becomes the most intriguing player on the trade market, and it’s easy to imagine a handful of teams who could go all-in on acquiring the guard. Could the Spurs try to pair him long-term with Victor Wembanyama? Might the Rockets view him as the piece they need to become a legit Western Conference contender? Would the Heat try to land him as their next star? What about the OKC Thunder, who have all the assets in the world and could add to their first-place core? Heck, we know the Golden State Warriors have been wanting to make a big splash, could this be the move?
If one thing is for sure, this news will throw a giant wrench into the pre-existing trade market. Teams like the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls, who have been mainstays in trade conversations thus far, may now have a hard time getting teams’ attention as they wait for the De’Aaron Fox fallout. At the same time, he is another star on a relatively big contract, which means it could open another door for a massive multi-team trade to form.
I guess this is yet another reminder that you never quite know how things will go in this league. The NBA loves chaos!
