Orange County girls basketball Top 25: Sage Hill leads rising teams in top five, Jan. 28

The Orange County girls basketball rankings for this week.

    GIRLS BASKETBALL TOP 25

    (Records through Monday, Jan. 27)

    1. Mater Dei (23-2): The Monarchs will need to lean more on their depth in the absence of standout junior Kaeli Wynn, whose return from a knee injury is unclear. Mater Dei plays JSerra and Orange Lutheran this week.

    2. Sage Hill (16-7): The Lightning appear to have found their stride during a season-high eight-game winning streak.

    3. Villa Park (21-4): The Spartans’ defense is holding teams to 35.1 points per game.

    4. Crean Lutheran (20-4): The Saints limited El Dorado to six points in the first half of a 44-30 win in the Crestview League.

    5. San Clemente (20-5): The Tritons have won a season-high nine games since their loss to Crean Lutheran in the finals of the Marina tournament on Dec. 30.

    7. JSerra (14-9): Rosie Santos made 10 of 11 field goals en route to 22 points in a 68-56 win against Westview at the Public vs. Private Showcase.

    8. Santa Margarita (17-7): The Eagles beat San Jacinto 64-54 at the Public vs. Private Showcase.

    9. Buena Park (16-6): Gloria Barrera averaged 28.5 points and 5.5 assists in two wins last week as the Coyotes improved to 6-0 in the Empire League.
