SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- An alleged gunman is dead following a police shooting Monday in San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood, according to the San Francisco Police Department.
Authorities initially responded to the area of Mission and Ninth streets just before 5 p.m. on the report of a shooting. A man was found suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Investigating officers learned that the suspect in the shooting was possibly in a nearby building, according to police. The alleged shooter was located, but authorities said they refused to exit the building. A perimeter was established as SFPD Specialist, Tactical and Hostage Negotiation teams responded to assist.
While SFPD was contacting the suspect during the standoff, a police shooting occurred, officials said. Officers and paramedics provided aid to the suspect at the scene before they were pronounced deceased.

Details of how many officers fired their weapons, how many shots were fired or if the suspect fired the recovered weapon were not immediately available.
The fatal police shooting will be investigated by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, the San Francisco Police Department Investigative Services Division, the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office, the San Francisco Police Department Internal Affairs Division and the Department of Police Accountability. A town hall meeting on the incident will be held within 10 days.
