Steve J. Squiric 1928-2025

PLANO, Texas — Steve J. Squiric, 96, formerly of Niles, passed away peacefully, Thursday morning, Jan. 2, 2025, at home.

Steve was born June 23, 1928, in McDonald, to Steve and Sarah Lillian Krepic Squirc.

    Steve left school at 16 to work at Republic Steel in Warren.

    When he joined the Army in October of 1945, he lied about his age. He served three years with the 7th Geodetic Squadron Army Air Force and was honorably discharged in September of 1948.

    He returned to work at Republic Steel for his entire working career. He was strong Union. He would say we wouldn’t have anything if not for the union. He was a good provider. He sold Fuller Brushes early on to make ends meet.

    He lived his entire life in the Niles area, for which he had a great fondness, until moving to Plano, Texas in his later years. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards with friends and vegetable gardening. If you asked him how he was doing he would sometimes say, “I’m all right, the world’s wrong.”

    He is survived by a brother, Jim Squiric of Mineral Ridge and a sister, Sally Jean Squiric of Massillon. He also leaves behind four children, Rick (Laurie) Squiric of Warrensburg, Missouri, Nancy Witkowski of Plano, Texas, William (Myrna) Squiric of Plano Texas, and John (Lisa) Squiric of Prosper, Texas; nine grandchildren, Emily Smith, Jeffrey Squiric, Geoffrey Burrows, Amy Awad, Elena Littleton, Alise Squiric, Phillip Squiric, James Squiric and Angela Squiric; and five great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis V. Candelore Squiric. They were married Oct. 21, 1950. She passed on July 29, 2023. Preceding also were his parents and a sister, Ann Cline of Niles and three brothers, Bob Squiric of Niles, Ron Squiric and Chuck Squiric of Mineral Ridge.

    Steve and Phyllis’s interment was held Jan. 11 in All Souls Cemetery, Bazetta.

    Arrangements for Steve and Phyllis have been entrusted to Allen Family Funeral Options, Plano, Texas; and Pete Rossi Funeral Home, Warren.
