Containment of the Border 2 Fire in the far southern reaches of the San Diego area increased to 55% today with flames not posing any immediate threats of spreading further, according to Cal Fire.
There were still scattered sections of burning brush within the perimeter of the fire as of 6 p.m. Monday.
The 6,625-acre blaze was 40% contained Sunday night and 43% Monday morning, according to Cal Fire. It has threatened 27 structures but none have been destroyed. There were no reports of injuries.
An evacuation order remained in effect for Otay Mountain-area neighborhoods east and south of Otay Lakes Road; south and west of Campo Road; along Otay Mountain Truck Trail; and north of the southern edges of the burn zone a few miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border
The blaze erupted just west of Doghouse Junction in the Otay Mountain Wilderness Area on Thursday afternoon. The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
Due to the firefighting efforts, Otay Lakes Road remained closed to through traffic on Monday at Wueste Road and just west of Pio Pico RV Park, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
