Super Bowl LIX is 13 days away. And when the ads start rolling in, yours truly will be mentally taking notes and taking grades. But with that being said, we’ve already got a leader in the clubhouse.
I did not have Matthew McConaughey turning into Mike Ditka for a Super Bowl ad on my 2025 bingo card. But here we go:
So … in a way, the Chicago Bears will be represented at the big game in New Orleans. That’s neat! It isn’t what I was hoping for when we embarked on this journey, but this will do for now.
Super Bowl ads are already here
I can’t front. This Uber Eats spot is well done. Although, the more I watch it the less I think this is Matthew McConaughey playing Mike Ditka and more of him playing one of the infamous Superfans from the iconic Saturday Night Live sketch. In any case, it is well done and well worth a tip of the cap to the team that cooked this up. Here’s hoping that everyone in that group was well-compensated for their creative efforts.
AROUND THE NFL: Eagles-Chiefs Championship Rematch
Last year’s Super Bowl ads fell flat, in my opinion. I’ll admit that my hopes get higher every passing year, which might play a role in my feelings about last year’s spots. With oversized advertising budgets and creative minds thrust into action, how am I not supposed to have outsized expectations? Whatever. If the game is a good one, then Super Bowl ads will be a secondary storyline at the end of the night. And if all else fails, at least we know the Kendrick Lamar halftime show will be solid.
One day soon, I hope to write about a Chicago Bears team playing in the NFL’s premier event instead of preparing to watch it at home alone or out somewhere with friends. Maybe that day will come someday soon with new head coach Ben Johnson and developing quarterback Caleb Williams. But for now, all we have is dreams and hopes for a brighter future.
