A woman and an incarcerated person were arrested for suspicion of mailing drug-laced letters to a San Diego County jail.
Deputies discovered fictitious legal mail intended for an inmate already in custody at the Otay Mesa facility while processing letters and believe the materials were soaked with narcotics.
Deputies began a criminal investigation and identified suspect Jacqueline Richardson as the one who mailed the packages containing the drugs to the George Bailey Detention Facility.
Detectives searched Richardson’s home in San Diego, where they said they found evidence related to the main case and additional narcotics such as powdered fentanyl, fentanyl pills, and methamphetamine.
Richardson was arrested and taken into custody. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, sending a controlled substance into a jail is a felony with a penalty of up to six years in prison.
The man the mail was addressed to remains in sheriff’s custody and was rearrested on criminal charges related to sending a controlled substance into jail.
