Patrick Mahomes has overcome serious challenges throughout his football career.
The back-to-back Super Bowl champion faced another huge one on Sunday before the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Buffalo Bills.
Mahomes starred as he led his team to a third straight Super Bowl in a tense affair against Josh Allen‘s Bills.
He stepped up when the pressure was on yet again, but this time it was even more impressive than usual.
That’s because just two days before the game, some concerning and heartbreaking Mahomes family news was revealed.
The quarterback’s mother, Randi, posted on Instagram that his grandfather had been placed in hospice care.
“My dad is in hospice and I’m lost for words,” Randi wrote.
In an accompanying image, she was seen standing next to her father, who is Mahomes’ grandfather.
Randi revealed in September at the start of the NFL season that her dad needed prayers.
“Prayer warriors please pray for my daddy,” she tweeted.
“He is in the hospital and is not well … his name is Randy.”
Fans supported Mahomes and his mother at the time.

“I will definitely pray for your Dad and for you,” a second fan posted. “I’m so sorry he’s not doing well.”
Randi said in November that she had “the best day visiting my dad.”
Two months prior, she shared a photo of herself watching a game with him while he was in a hospital bed.
But with the Chiefs hoping to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls, Randi shared tough news for the Mahomes family.
“Prayers for your dad and your fam,” a fan tweeted.

He’s won three Super Bowls, made six Pro Bowls, and has become the new face of the NFL after Tom Brady‘s retirement as a player.
Mahomes has three children with his wife, Brittany.
A daughter named Golden Raye joined three-year-old daughter Sterling and two-year-old son Bronze in the Mahomes family.
The Chiefs QB will be hoping his grandfather will return to better health soon to be with his family for the Super Bowl.
His performance despite the news ahead of the game, was a testament to the professionalism and commitment of the superstar.
Speaking after beating the Bills, Mahomes said: “It’s just so hard to get to the Super Bowl, and I don’t take it for granted.
“And to be able to do it again at Arrowhead was special.
“I mean, last year it was awesome. You get there and you win it, but you’re at a different stadium.
“Being able to win it at Arrowhead, then you get that trophy on that stage and you look around, there’s not a seat empty.
“It is a special place, and I’m glad that I get to be a part of Chiefs Kingdom and here in Kansas City, because these [are] moments that I’ll have for the rest of my life.”
Mahomes and the Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2025 Super Bowl after the Eagles beat the Washington Commanders.
