Starbucks rolls out ‘condiment Code of Conduct’ today after chain reverses seven-year-old policy

STARBUCKS is officially bringing back and introducing new amenities to its US and Canadian cafes starting today.

The coffee chain’s moves come right on the heels of its reversal of a seven-year-old policy regarding purchases.

“Starting today, there are more reasons to stay awhile,” Starbucks shared in its announcement on Monday.

One of the amenities the coffee giant is bringing back is its “for here” rule with free refills.

Starbucks customers who order a beverage “for here” will be served in a coffee mug, glass, or clean personal cup brought from home beginning on January 27.

During their visit to that cafe, customers can also enjoy free refills of hot and iced brewed coffee and tea.

Free refills exclude Cold Brew and Nitro Cold Brew, Iced Tea Lemonade, flavored Iced Tea, and Starbucks Refreshers base.

Also beginning today, Starbucks is bringing back its condiment bar.

Creamer, milk, and a variety of sweeteners will return to the condiment bar, allowing customers to put the finishing touches on their drinks.

    POLICY U-TURN

As part of the Starbucks announcement, the coffee chain also reiterated its Coffeehouse Code of Conduct.

“We’ve also heard from customers and partners (employees) that access to comfortable seating and a clean, safe environment is critical to getting back to the Starbucks they know and love,” wrote the company.

“To do this, we’ll be implementing a Coffeehouse Code of Conduct to provide clarity that our spaces are for use by customers and partners.”

As outlined by Starbucks, the code of conduct includes rules such as:

No misuse or disruption of Starbucks spaces    No discrimination or harassment    No violence or abusive/threatening language    No consuming outside alcohol   No smoking/vaping or drug use   No panhandling

The most controversial aspect of the chain’s new policy includes the reversal of its seven-year-old rule that permitted customers to use Starbucks’ space without making a purchase.

Starbucks has now made a U-turn on its open door policy, requiring fans to spend money to use its cafes, restrooms, and outdoor patios.

The company is hoping to improve the safety and experience of customers and employees.

“There is a need to reset expectations for how our spaces should be used, and who uses them,” said Starbucks North America President Sara Trilling.

The open-door policy was first introduced in 2018 after two Black men were arrested at a Philadelphia Starbucks while waiting for an associate, prompting protests against the racial bias.

The CEO at the time, Kevin Johnson, issued a public apology, and Starbucks ultimately launched its “third-place” policy, allowing customers to hang out in its spaced without buying anything.

As Starbucks changes its policies and adds new amenities, other restaurant chains have major changes in the works.

A popular restaurant chain and Cracker Barrel rival has revealed that fans will see a change to its iconic shoestring fries.

Plus, a new KFC sports venue logo has launched that “pushes the envelope” but fans ask if there’s something “wrong with my eyes.”
