THE NFL has dished out a major penalty for an “obscene” gesture.
Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams is facing a massive fine for celebrating a touchdown.
Williams has been fined $25,325 for unsportsmanlike conduct during the Lions’ playoff loss to the Washington Commanders.
The NFL described the conduct as “obscene gestures.”
NFL fans were in support of the fine for Williams and shared their thoughts on social media.
“One of the few NFL fines that seems appropriate. I mean, what was he thinking?” one fan said.
“Deserved fine, so confused how it wasn’t an unsportsmanlike conduct when the game was going on,” another fan said.
“Extreme over celebration in all professional sports,” a third fan said.
“Show some class,” a fourth fan said.
“That has no place in football,” a fifth fan said.
Other players received fines for actions in the same game as Williams’ fine.
Frankie Luvu of the Commanders incurred two separate fines during the game.
The first of the fines came in the form of a roughing the passer penalty.
This penalty wasn’t called during the game, but was assessed after the completion.
The NFL labeled it as a “blow to the head/neck.”
Luvu was given a $16,883 fine for the penalty.
Later in the game, Luvu was determined to have completed an illegal hip drop tackle.
