Welcome rains drenched San Diego County over the weekend, providing a boon to exhausted firefighters and bringing with them much-needed humidity — and forecasters say they’re not done with the area yet.

The National Weather Service says there is a chance of thunderstorms into Monday, while there is a chance that rain may hang around San Diego until Wednesday. Maximum rain rates could exceed 0.3 inches per hour Sunday, with locally heavier rainfall possible.

“There is a 25% chance of showers continuing into Wednesday, mainly in San Diego County,” said the National Weather Service in an update.

A cold front is also bringing a significant amount of snow to the mountains, NWS added.

“Snow levels falling to 3500-4000 ft in San Bernardino County tonight into Monday night could result in travel impacts on I-15 through the Cajon Pass,” the agency said.

Highs in the coastal areas and valleys will be in the low 60s through Monday, with lows dropping from the mid-30s to the low 40s. In the mountains, highs will reach the low-50s in some areas, but will drop to the mid-20s overnight.

A slight warming trend after the winter storm may give way to more rains next weekend, forecasters said.
