After a power-packed group stage, the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, happening in Malaysia, has now entered the Super Six phase, which began on January 25. Australia thrashed West Indies, while South Africa continued their strong form with a victory over Ireland. India is playing their first Super Six game against Bangladesh on January 26 at Borneo Cricket Ground, Sarawak. The defending champions will look to capitalise on their momentum against Bangladesh.
But are you aware of how this interesting Super Six format works? Apart from the teams mentioned, how many other teams have also qualified for this round? Take a look at all the details about the Super Six stage and check out the crucial information.
Super Six format
Certain factors will now decide the four semifinalists in the ongoing ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025. Out of the 16 teams that started, only 12 remain. These teams are now split into two groups of six, and each team will play two matches within their group.
For example, Australia who came 1st in Group D, having won three group-stage matches, played their first Super Six game against West Indies and won. Their next match will be against Sri Lanka on January 29.
The only important point to mention is the points that the qualifying teams earned in the group stage. These points are carried forward, but only those earned against teams that also advanced to the Super Six. For instance, India, who are in Super Six Group 1 with Sri Lanka and West Indies, will carry four points into the Super Six. However, points from their win against the relegated team, Malaysia, do not count.
After all the games in the two groups, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, which are set to be played on January 31. The final will be held on February 2 at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur.
