Luke Littler sets up Michael van Gerwen rematch after avoiding potential banana skin at Dutch Darts Masters

Luke Littler will face a mouth-water clash with Michael van Gerwen in the quarter-finals of the Dutch Darts Masters on Saturday.

It will be the pair’s first meeting since the final of the PDC World Darts Championship three weeks ago.

Littler avoided a maiden first round exit on the World Series on Friday by overcoming Dimitri Van den Bergh in Den Bosch.

The Nuke secured a 6-4 win to set up his last eight clash with Van Gerwen.

Meanwhile, the three-time world champion thrashed compatriot Dirk van Duijvenbode 6-1 earlier in the night to earn his spot in the next round.

Speaking after his win, the Dutchman explained: “It’s a tough draw but I’m happy with this.

“I felt comfortable and I did the right things at the right moment to put him under pressure.

“There’s more to build on but I’m fine. I felt really relaxed and in patches I played really well. Tomorrow’s going to be a really important night.”

Mighty Mike will now have the chance to get revenge on the teenage darts sensation.

Littler saw off Van Gerwen 7-3 at Ally Pally on January 3 to smash his record of being the sport’s youngest ever world champion.

Their meeting is also a rematch of last year’s Dutch Darts Masters final, which Van Gerwen won 8-6.

Fans will also be provided with a preview of what to expect when this year’s Premier League gets underway next month.

It will be the pair’s first meeting since the PDC World Darts Championship finalRex

Littler and Van Gerwen are set to face each other on night one at the SSE Arena in Belfast on February 6.

Both players have been handed several boosts to their chances of scooping the £30,000 prize money on offer for the event winner.

Of the eight PDC representatives competing in the Netherlands, three have already crashed out.

Amongst them is world number one Luke Humphries, who was beaten 6-3 by Jermaine Wattimena.

Meanwhile, Raymond van Barneveld and Kevin Doets defeated Chris Dobey and Nathan Aspinall, respectively.

It leaves Littler and Van Gerwen as the highest ranked players left in the tournament.

Stephen Bunting and Gerwyn Price, who contested last weekend’s Bahrain Darts Masters final, both remain in the draw, though.

The event will conclude on Saturday with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final all taking place at the Maaspoort.
