US President Donald Trump stated that the Gaza ceasefire deal, which he credited himself with helping to finalise, "should hold" as Israel continues to fight a "multi-front war" now extending to the occupied West Bank.
While expressing cautious optimism, Trump warned, "The deal should hold, but if it doesn’t, there will be a lot of problems."
These remarks soften his earlier statements this week, where he expressed doubts about the ceasefire’s durability.
His comments come as the Israeli military’s operation in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin enters its fourth day on Friday.
According to Palestinian health officials, 12 Palestinians have been killed and 40 others wounded since the operation began.
This marks the third major Israeli military raid in Jenin in less than two years.
The escalation has prompted warnings from France and Jordan, urging against further violence in the West Bank, which has seen a sharp rise in tensions since the onset of the war in Gaza.
