Max Holloway wants to put his BMF status on the line against Charles Oliveira this summer.
Oliveira had teased a potential bout with Holloway this week, amid questions over a potential rematch with UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.
Makhachev won UFC gold for the first time by submitting Oliveira at UFC 280 in 2022, handing the Brazilian his first defeat in five year in the process.
The Dagestani fighter has since defended the belt four times, most recently by submitting Renato Moicano in the first round of his main event at UFC 311.
That fight marked Makhachev’s 15th consecutive victory in the UFC, which prompted numerous MMA fans to question who could be left to fight for the champion, who has been considering a move up to the welterweight division.
“We’ll have to see when [Islam] Makhachev will want to come back,” Oliveira told UFC Brazil, regarding a potential rematch with the Russian.
“If he only wants to fight in October, I definitely want to fight before that, so why not challenge Max Holloway for the BMF belt?
“We met before, but I suffered an injury right in the beginning, so there wasn’t an actual fight. I think we deserve to make this fight happen.”
Before he embarked on his iconic 11-fight win streak, Oliveira suffered a first-round TKO defeat to Holloway at UFC Fight Night 74 in 2015 because of a micro-tear in his esophagus.
“International Fight Week?” Holloway responded on X to quotes of Oliveira teasing a fight with him.
UFC International Fight Week takes place in either June or July this year, although nothing has been officially confirmed by the promotion.
That timeframe has reportedly been proposed for the potential mouthwatering clash between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall to unify the UFC’s heavyweight division.
Holloway won the BMF title from Justin Gaethje at UFC 300GettyThis means that a rematch between Oliveira and Holloway would likely come nearly 10 years since they first met in August 2025.
Holloway fought twice last year, with both bouts ending in two extremely different ways.
He challenged Justin Gaethje for the BMF (Baddest M***** F*****) title in April, knocking his American counterpart out with one second left in what was the UFC’s most viral moment of 2024.
That victory secured him a title shot at UFC 308 in October with featherweight champion Ilia Topuria, who had knocked out Alexander Volkanovski seven months prior.
But the 33-year-old from Honolulu, Hawaii, failed to overcome Topuria, and suffered the first knockout defeat of his career.
This has since sparked rumours among the combat sports world as to what will be next for ‘Blessed’, who has proved he is still very much at the pinnacle of his fighting career.
Oliveira was victorious against Michael Chandler in his last bout at UFC 309 in November, which proved to be a spectacular affair.
Chandler tasted defeat against Oliveira for a second time at UFC 309GETTYTherefore, the Brazilian could prove to be the perfect opponent for Holloway, who still holds ambitions of becoming a UFC champion once again.
