A critical fire threat will continue across San Diego County as Santa Ana winds and dry conditions persist through early Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather agency extended a red flag warning for inland and mountain communities until 10 a.m. Friday, with the strongest winds Thursday heightening the fire danger.
High temperatures Thursday are expected to reach 78 to 83 near the coast, 79 to 84 in the western valleys, 69 to 74 near the foothills, 57 to 67 in the mountains and 70 to 73 in the deserts.
Afternoon relative humidity levels will drop to single digits through Friday, the NWS said.
Relief may be on the horizon, however, as a shift in the weather is expected over the weekend, according to meteorologists.
Forecasters predict increasing rain and mountain snow beginning Saturday, with lingering showers into early next week, bringing much-needed moisture to the dry landscape.
