On Wednesday, the Green and White announced that they have re-signed American offensive lineman Trevon Tate, who was set to become a free agent on Feb. 11.
After starting the 2024 CFL season with the Calgary Stampeders, where he played four games at right tackle, Tate went on to join the Riders in August before starting eight games also at right tackle.

The 6-foot-4, 2965-pounder started the Western semifinal at right tackle before an injury to Trevor Reid forced Tate to move to left tackle, where he remained for the West final.
With Reid having moved to the NFL and with right tackle Jermarcus Hardrick fully recovered from an injury that cut his season short last year, it’s likely Tate is the leading candidate to take over the starting left tackle spot for the team this season.
Collegiately, Tate played 51 games for the Memphis Tigers, primarily at left tackle from 2015 to 2018. He then joined the NFL’s Cleveland Browns for a short stint in 2019 before coming to the CFL.
Tate spent parts of two seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2019 and 2021) before joining the Toronto Argonauts midway through the 2021 CFL season. While on the Argonauts’ practice roster, Tate suited up for one game with the Ottawa Redblacks as a temporary player under the CFL’s pandemic roster rules. After one game, he came back to Toronto and made four starts that season.
In 2022, he played four games for the Argonauts during a season that saw Toronto win the Grey Cup. In 2023, Tate returned to the Argos, starting eight games at right tackle and two at left tackle, before joining the Calgary Stampeders during free agency that off-season.

Along with Tate, the Roughriders offensive line group features Americans Hardrick, Brandon Kemp, Jacob Brammer and Nick Jones along with Canadians Logan Ferland, Zack Fry, Noah Zerr, Daniel Johnson and Braydon Noll.
Canadians Peter Godber, Ryan Sceviour and Philip Blake remain pending free agents.
CFL Scouting Bureau
The CFL Scouting Bureau released its winter edition of the prospect rankings with quarterback Kurtis Rourke continuing to hold down top spot after debuting at No. 1 in the fall rankings.
In 2024, Rourke, the younger brother of B.C. Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke, set Indiana’s single season passing touchdown record with 29. He was also awarded the 2024 Jon Cornish trophy as the top Canadian in NCAA football.
Last year, six of the nine first-round selections in the 2024 CFL Draft were ranked in the top 20 of the scouting bureau’s winter rankings. This year, 11 prospects are from NCAA schools while nine are from U Sports programs.
Meanwhile six players who were listed on the previous rankings in August have reclassified for the 2026 draft. Those players include receiver Damien Alford, receiver Nolan Ulm, defensive lineman Akheem Mesidor, defensive lineman Wesley Bailey, defensive back Jett Elad and defensive lineman Rene Konga. Additionally, offensive lineman Eric Schon has retired.
