NBA star Ty Jerome has become the latest high-profile athlete to have their home burglarized.
The Cleveland Cavaliers guard had his Los Angeles home broken into while on a road trip with the team.
Jerome joins a list of athletes including Travis Kelce and Joe Burrow to have their homes broken into in recent months.
There is no report on what was taken from Jerome’s house, but police reports confirmed a window was shattered in the break-in.
Authorities reported that the burglars fled quickly after committing the robbery.
The FBI is currently investigating the string of robberies in connection to an organized crime ring.
“These homes are targeted for burglary due to the perception they may have high-end goods like designer handbags, jewelry, watches and cash,” the FBI said in a Liaison Information Report.
“While many burglaries occur while homes are unoccupied, some burglaries occur while residents are home.
“In these instances, individuals are encouraged to seek law enforcement help and avoid engaging with criminals, as they may be armed or use violence if confronted.”
The crime ring reportedly uses “Wi-Fi jammers to block Wi-Fi connections and disable devices, cover security cameras, and obfuscate their identities,” according to the report.
The main suspects are a group of illegal South American immigrants.
This group tracks athletes’ movements on social media and then hits their homes while away.
Most of the robberies have occurred while the victim is playing a road game.
This follows the pattern of Burrow’s robbery, where his home was broken into while he was away playing the Dallas Cowboys.
Four Chilean nationals were named as the prime suspects in that burglary.
They were found to have a Bengals and LSU shirt among their belongings when pulled over for a traffic violation.
Other NBA stars have been victims of these robberies as well.
