‘Whole world sees it’ – Houston Texans suggest NFL ref conspiracy helped Chiefs win home playoff game

The Houston Texans missed critical field goals and committed twice as many penalties as the Kansas City Chiefs.

But after falling 23-14 to the reigning Super Bowl champs on Sunday, several Texans players hinted that something more than talent was involved in another Chiefs playoff victory inside Arrowhead Stadium.

“Everybody knows how it is, playing up here,” Texans running back Joe Mixon said.

“You can’t — you can never leave it into the refs’ hands.

“The whole world sees, man, what it is. It is what it is.

“When it comes down to it, you can’t never leave it into the refs’ hands.”

Mixon wasn’t the only Texan to hint that NFL referees were pulling hard for the Chiefs in Kansas City.

Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans and quarterback C.J. Stroud also appeared to take shots at the refs.

“You kind of know what’s up before you even walk into the arena,” Stroud said.

“We knew going into this game that is was us versus everybody,” Ryans said. “When I say ‘everybody,’ it was everybody.’ “

Fans were quick to point out that the Texans blew multiple opportunities on Sunday, however.

They started the game off with an erratic personal-foul penalty, while Ryans’ decision to kick a 55-yard field goal — which badly misfired and was carried by the Kansas City wind — helped set up a Chiefs touchdown.

    Kansas City led 3-0, 13-3 and 23-13.

The Texans allowed eight sacks, committed eight penalties for 82 yards, and were the AFC’s No. 4 seed while playing on the road against a franchise in the middle of a dynasty run.

But it was obvious that Mixon was suggesting the Chiefs had extra help on the field, and fans were split on the hint that a larger NFL conspiracy took down the 10-7 Texans against the 15-2 Chiefs.

“Feel bad for them,” one fan tweeted. “They got robbed.”

“(14) points ain’t gonna cut it in the playoffs, especially on the road,” a second fan posted.

“The refs sacked your QB 8 times tonight too,” a third fan wrote.

“Yeah, those horrible calls letting Chiefs defense sack Stroud – I saw at least eight of those crappy calls!” a fourth fan said. “Also the calls on special teams were just horrendous. How can a kicker make a kick with such terrible calls?”

A roughing-the-passer penalty against Will Anderson Jr. helped extend a key Chiefs drive.

“We knew it was going to be us versus the refs going into this game,” Anderson said.

But NFL refs have been protecting quarterbacks for years, and video replays showed that Anderson hit Patrick Mahomes near his helmet while on-field action was taking place downfield.

With the Texans outgaining the Chiefs by 124 total offensive yards and collecting four more first downs, it’s clear that Houston had a shot to upset Mahomes’ team in Kansas City.

What’s unclear is whether a league-wide conspiracy involving refs was at the core of a 23-14 defeat that ended the Texans’ season.

Houston fell to 0-6 in franchise history in the Divisional Round with the road loss.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs picked up another postseason win with Taylor Swift cheering on Travis Kelce.

Kansas City advanced to face either Buffalo or Baltimore in the AFC Championship.
