Kevin Durant shares five-word message to Detroit as he joins Commanders for locker room celebrations

Kevin Durant had an unforgettable Saturday in Detroit.

The NBA star first took to the court for the Phoenix Suns against the Pistons, finishing with 36 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and three blocks in 38 minutes of action.

His impressive performance helped secure a tight 125-121 win that sees the Suns move to 21-20 on the season.

And after he was done putting up points against the Pistons, Durant made the short trip from the arena to Ford Field, where he watched his Washington Commanders secure an upset win against the Detroit Lions.

Jayden Daniels and co beat the NFC’s top-seeded team 45-31 in a game that will live long in the memory.

The result means Washington are heading to the NFC Championship for the first time since the 1991 season, while Detroit are one-and-done in the playoffs after their bye last week.

Younger fans of the Commanders have waited a lifetime to see this moment, and even DC native Durant hasn’t seen a Washington team this successful since he was three years old.

And he wasted no time in celebrating, sharing a cheeky five-word message aimed at Detroit fans.

“Have a great night, Detroit,” he wrote on X.

Durant’s post quickly went viral, and has been seen more than four million times in less than 12 hours.

“Gave them 2 L’s tonight,” one fan joked, responding to his message.

“Cooked the Pistons and Lions in one night,” another said.

“Put this tweet in the hall of fame,” a third suggested.

    But Durant wasn’t done there.

He also joined the Commanders in the locker room as they celebrated an unlikely victory.

Cornerback Mike Sainristil posted a short video of the pair sharing a joke on Instagram, while the team’s X account also posted a picture of the NBA star posing in his Commanders jersey.

While Durant was a welcome guest in the locker room on Saturday night, head coach Dan Quinn received an even more electric welcome.

Footage showed his players erupting as he made his way back inside after the stunning win, before delivering a speech to get his team hyped for the Championship game next week – one that Durant will be watching closely.

“Three things, man. First is this: Ball is life,” Quinn said to cheers.

“Talked about being heavy hitters, and you’re for damn sure some heavy hitters now.

“From the first day we got together, it’s on our wall: ‘Anybody, anywhere, anytime’. I love you guys. Let’s find out where it is tomorrow and get our show back on the road.”

The Commanders will face either the Philadelphia Eagles or Los Angeles Rams in the NFC title game next Sunday.
