Clemson is restructuring its coaching staff ahead of the 2025 season, with significant roles for two Tiger legends. During Wednesday’s press conference to introduce new defensive coordinator Tom Allen, Dabo Swinney announced that Ben Boulware would be elevated to linebackers coach and tasked with hitting the recruiting trail.
Allen, meanwhile, will oversee the defense without focusing on a specific position, a setup Swinney says mirrors systems already in place at other programs. “Allen will handle coordinating duties, and Ben will be out on the road recruiting,” Swinney noted.
On offense, another Clemson great, Tajh Boyd, is in line for a larger role as quarterbacks coach, with plans for him to handle recruiting responsibilities as well. Swinney said the final decision is pending discussions with offensive coordinator Garrett Riley but added, “If we go that route, Tajh will be the one to represent us on the road.”
The changes come in response to NCAA rules allowing more flexibility in coaching responsibilities, a trend many programs have embraced to maximize staff efficiency. Swinney emphasized how Clemson’s approach will align with these updates to keep the Tigers competitive on multiple fronts.
