A CARTOONIST who was celebrated for his anti-Donald Trump drawings has been accused of sharing sick AI-generated child pornography, according to reports.
Washington Post contributor Darrin Bell, 49, allegedly uploaded 134 abhorrent videos depicting minors before he was arrested.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning artist was arrested on Wednesday by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office in California, authorities told NBC affiliate KNTV.
Deputies started investigating the abhorrent alleged criminal after they found an account that had uploaded 18 files with child sexual abuse material to an online service.
After doing some more digging, they determined that Bell owned the account and eventually linked a mountain of other stomach-churning videos to him, cops said.
They raided his home before taking him to the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he’s being held on a massive $1 million bail.
His is the first arrest since distributing AI-generated images of child sexual abuse material became a crime in Sacramento on January 1.
Bell is a celebrated cartoonist who was worshipped by mainstream media outlets for his ghoulish depictions of President Donald Trump.
In 2023, he published a graphic novel called The Talk, which was a memoir on “police brutality and anti-Blackness in twenty-first-century Amerikkka,” according to the description.
It was inspired by outrage over the murder of George Floyd and was dedicated to his son, he told ABC News in May.
In that interview, he explained why parents should “take away some innocence” from children by talking about racial issues in America.
He said, “People can mistreat” kids “not because of anything that they’ve done but because of what they look like.”
The artist warned parents to have these hard conversations with children so they can recognize abuse if they ever experience it.
According to his LinkedIn account, Bell is a self-employed artist who publishes his work with King Features.
He worked as a syndicated cartoonist for the Washington Post for nearly 20 years.
Bell was active on social media and posted a weekly editorial cartoon on LinkedIn.
